In just one year, the City of Buenos Aires has used more than 20 million dollars from the Federal Penitentiary Service Budget, an amount that was originally supposed to be reimbursed as established. The Minister of Justice of Buenos Aires, Gabino Tapia, has entered into a dispute with the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, blaming her for what he considers negligence and failure to perform duties regarding the transfer of prisoners.
"Prisoners should not remain in police stations, but in federal prisons, which are the responsibility of the national government. The City does not have the transfer from Justice, a claim that is still pending," Tapia stated in a social media post directed at Bullrich. He emphasized that the City Police carry out their work by arresting criminals and placing them at the disposal of national Justice, which currently has jurisdiction over the matter.
The minister attached to the message a graphic showing an increase in the number of criminals housed in police stations, reaching 2,500 this year. Tapia believes that the lack of compliance and negligence on the part of Bullrich constitutes a direct harm to the city's residents: "In this regard, we are in an even worse situation than during the Kirchner administration. It is time to put an end to provocations and falsehoods," concluded the official.
