Archbishop of Buenos Aires Advocates for Public Policies

The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva, recently made a revolutionary proposal by highlighting the need for the State to be present through the development of public policies to counteract the advance of drug trafficking in popular neighborhoods. In radio statements, he emphasized the importance of having policies that propose the idea of an intelligent and present State, fundamental for improving the quality of life in vulnerable sectors.

He underscored the importance of investigating and denouncing possible acts of corruption in the measures taken with these public policies, as well as the necessity to condemn such acts. He also highlighted the need for policies that propose an intelligent presence of the State to prevent the advance of drug trafficking in neighborhoods, which is becoming increasingly common.

Regarding the Government's intervention in issues such as housing, sewage, education, and micro-enterprises, the archbishop stated that not everything has been corruption and disaster, and he acknowledged the dialogue he maintains with various officials of the Executive Power, including President Javier Milei, despite existing differences. Tensions arose with the administration of Jorge Macri, particularly regarding the decision to enclose the Cathedral during a march of the LGBT community.

García Cuerva recounted his insistence on the elimination of the barriers around the Cathedral to promote openness and dialogue with society, despite diversity, successfully ensuring that the pride march proceeded without issues. However, the archbishop questioned the placement of the barriers during a recent protest, ignoring the request of the archdiocese and a prior agreement reached with Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich.

Regarding the health status of Pope Francis, García Cuerva reported that he had a good night and managed to rest, but indicated that it is a situation that is evaluated day by day. He highlighted the prophetic voice of Pope Francis in addressing issues such as wars, mistreatment, migration, and cultural indifference, evidencing his work from the Gemelli Polyclinic.
