Mauricio Claver-Carone anticipates that the United States will investigate a crypto scandal that has affected thousands of American citizens, complicating relations with Argentina.

FBI Investigation into Scandal in Argentina

In an interview with CNN en Español, Mauricio Claver-Carone, Donald Trump's representative for Latin America and one of his most influential figures in foreign policy, anticipated that the United States would investigate the scandal due to the large number of American citizens who would have been scammed. Claver-Carone stated: "It's complicated because there were victims, there were American defrauded individuals. There were hundreds, if not thousands, who lost millions of dollars, and some of the president's advisors are involved."

The former director of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and former advisor to the National Security Council during Trump's first presidency made it clear that the case would not go unnoticed by U.S. justice. "I believe there will be judicial investigation issues, which makes it a complex matter," he warned. The statements fell like a bucket of cold water in the Casa Rosada, which has so far tried to minimize the crisis and points to him as a figure capable of influencing the bilateral relationship above Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Claver-Carone's position complicates Milei's plans to gain support from the State Department and Donald Trump. Although the Republican official acknowledged that there could be "some type of agreement that provides more investments" for Argentina, he made it clear that the financial scandal could become a serious obstacle to relations between Washington and Buenos Aires. Milei made only an indirect reference to the matter during his speech at the Legislative Assembly, where he compared the scandal to the $110 billion that, according to him, the "caste" stole from Argentinians.

According to sources cited by CNN, the FBI has already initiated an investigation into the crypto scam, which could become a headache for the libertarian government in the full electoral year in the United States. Claver-Carone's involvement is a key factor: in addition to being removed from the IDB after an internal scandal, he is the most critical Republican of Milei within Trump's circle. The "Cryptogate $LIBRA" has become an international problem for Javier Milei.
