Train Drivers Union Protests in Buenos Aires

The general secretary of the union, Omar Maturano, criticized politicians for imposing increases without consulting workers and questioned the lack of progress in wage negotiations. After six months of dialogue without satisfactory proposals, the union decided to take protest measures. It was reported that each worker will notify the company of their refusal to work on national holidays as part of this new form of demonstration.

According to the union, this measure, which was announced at the end of January, marks the beginning of a struggle plan for wage demands. They consider that it is the employers who are pressuring by increasing prices, while the CGT has expressed its willingness to dialogue, but they wonder how much longer they will have to wait. The union leader highlighted that this protest will not affect services on Monday and Tuesday, being limited to Saturday.

La Fraternidad, the union led by Maturano, confirmed that next Saturday, March 1st, there will be no trains in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, as drivers will take leave in commemoration of the Railwaymen's Day. In a statement, the union explained that this is done in memory of the year 1948, when Perón nationalized the railroads.

The strike will affect all metropolitan lines such as Roca, Sarmiento, San Martín, Belgrano, Mitre, and Urquiza, coinciding with the start of the long Carnival weekend.
