Alberto Fernández Facing Gender Violence Charges

The Federal Chamber of Buenos Aires has scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 6 to confirm whether it will uphold the processing of former President Alberto Fernández for gender violence against Fabiola Yáñez. According to judicial sources, both the defense of the former president and the complaint from the former first lady will have the opportunity to present their arguments before the judges of the second chamber of the Appeals Court, Martín Irurzun, Eduardo Farah, and Roberto Boico.

Federal Judge Julián Ercolini decided to process Alberto Fernández for serious and minor injuries, as well as for coercion within the context of an alleged case of gender violence of which Yáñez would have been a victim. According to the processing, it is stated that "There are several elements that account for the existence of the habitual and continuous nature that the violence allegedly exercised by the accused Fernández over the named Yáñez has acquired in various forms."

The convened hearing will allow the involved parties to present their arguments either in person or through written submissions. Subsequently, the Federal Chamber will be in a position to resolve whether to uphold the processing of Alberto Fernández in this case.
