The president of the Civic Coalition ARI and national deputy for the City of Buenos Aires, Maximiliano Ferraro, emphasized that thanks to the presentation by the NGO Republican Action for Argentina and prior complaints, Judge Ariel Lijo could overturn a ruling against Argentina for 16 billion dollars related to the hollowing out of YPF. Ferraro highlighted the urgency of a response from the national government before February 25 to avoid serious economic consequences.
Judge Loretta Preska opened a consultation after receiving a complaint that could change the course of the case facing Argentina against the fund Burford Capital. The complaint was filed by the civil organization Republican Action for Argentina and could lead to the annulment of the initial verdict that required the country to pay the compensation.
The official response that must be sent to Judge Preska before February 25 becomes crucial, as it could define the outcome of the case. In this sense, the Argentine authorities are under pressure to act promptly and effectively. Maximiliano Ferraro urged the Government and YPF to respond before the deadline to avoid the serious economic implications of not reversing the ruling.
Marcela Campagnoli also spoke on this issue, highlighting the importance of an effective response from the Government and YPF. The legislator recalled the previous complaints by Elisa CarriĆ³ about the hollowing out of YPF in 2006, as well as a report from the UIF in 2018 that supported the presentation that could lead to the annulment of the million-dollar ruling.
The consultation opened by Judge Preska represents an unexpected change in a case that seemed closed, revealing irregularities previously reported. The possibility of reversing the adverse ruling is seen as a significant economic relief for Argentina and a key opportunity for the country.
