On Tuesday, a new case of detainee escape occurred in Buenos Aires, specifically in the Balvanera neighborhood. Previously, similar situations had happened in Caballito and in the heart of the Microcentro. The Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff, was scheduled for his questioning in the Buenos Aires Legislature to provide explanations about these evasion incidents in the capital, but this session had to be suspended due to the new escape that took place.
In an email sent to the legislators of the Security Commission, Wolff informed that his presentation was postponed and that the new date for his appearance will be next Wednesday, February 26, at 2:00 PM in the Montevideo hall of the Legislature. This is due to the events that occurred at 3rd Police Station of Balvanera, which require the minister's priority intervention in the situation.
"Unless you are thinking of resigning, you have to come to the Legislature today. If it's because of today's escape, you won’t be able to come any day, because they escape all the time," said Claudia Neira, president of the Union for the Homeland bloc, referring to the need for Wolff to provide explanations.
In the last ten days, three episodes of escapes have been recorded in the City of Buenos Aires, which has generated concern and led to internal investigations and changes in the police leadership.
