The government of the City of Buenos Aires, through the Secretariat of Security and the Ministry of Public Space, has carried out an operation in the neighborhood of Flores, specifically in the area of Avellaneda street, with the aim of evicting more than 5,000 street vendors. The operation has caused traffic disruptions in the area.
More than 550 police officers have been deployed in the area since dawn to carry out more than 50 raids. The action also involves more than 550 inspectors, workers, and members of various divisions, including the Superintendency of Investigations, the ministries of Security and Public Space, the Government Control Agency, Traffic, and the National Directorate of Migrations.
"This measure is in line with actions against illegal trade networks and the public space reorganization policy promoted by the City," stated the authorities. It has been noted that within the framework of this intervention, complaints have been received regarding clandestine work and human trafficking in textile workshops, and that residents and merchants in the area have expressed their dissatisfaction with what they describe as "lack of control in the streets and unfair competition."
The case is being handled by the Criminal, Contravention, and Minor Offenses Court No. 22, led by Rocío López Di Muro, and the Complex Crimes Prosecutor's Office, led by Celsa Ramírez, with the Unique Secretariat of Daniel González. Additionally, there have been reports of complaints related to clandestine work and human trafficking in textile workshops in the area.
