Kicillof Criticizes Ficha Limpia Project

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, criticized the Ficha Limpia bill, labeling it an attempt at persecution and proscription against former president Cristina Kirchner. Kicillof stated: "What a paradox that they call it Ficha Limpia, a project that only seeks to dirty and has the clear objective of proscribing Cristina Kirchner." According to the governor, there can be no free elections or full democracy if political proscription and persecution are allowed.

The Ficha Limpia project seeks to prevent people with convictions in the second instance from running as candidates in future elections, which has generated intense debate in both political and judicial spheres. Kicillof highlighted the contradiction between the republican discourse used by the government and its allies and what he sees as actions that restrict freedom and democratic participation.

The governor urged Congress to reject the initiative on the premise that its approval would have negative consequences for the fairness of the democratic system. In his criticisms, Kicillof emphasized the importance of guaranteeing elections free from proscription and political persecution as a fundamental basis of a just and equitable democratic system.
