A new act of violence against the LGBT+ community has caused shock in Argentina. A lesbian couple, aged 26 and 24, was brutally attacked in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The unfortunate incident took place while they were walking down the street and were confronted by a stranger who physically and verbally assaulted them.
Y.Q., one of the victims, recounted: "He wouldn't let me react or anything, he punched me, and I fell to the ground and saw everything black." Situations like these create a sense of insecurity among the LGBT+ community, as Y.Q. expressed: "Now it leaves me with tremendous insecurity to walk down the street even during the day, even if it's full of people."
The attack occurred days after a hate speech delivered by current Argentine president Javier Milei, raising even more concerns about the escalation of violence and discrimination against this group. Sofía, another of the assaulted, demanded justice and an immediate clarification of the case, emphasizing the need to enforce the law with a gender perspective and respecting the rights of lesbians.
The Argentine LGBT+ Federation has denounced this act of violence, highlighting the seriousness of the events and requesting an urgent meeting with the prosecutor in charge of the investigation. The aggressor, a man in his 30s, has been detained and charged with serious injuries after being restrained by a passerby who witnessed the attack.
These unfortunate episodes add to other violent incidents against the LGBT+ community, such as the triple femicide in Barracas and the arson of a lesbian couple's home in Cañuelas. The need to combat hate speech and promote equality and respect becomes increasingly crucial in today's society.
