Surgeon Released After Kidnapping Allegations in Palermo

The plastic surgeon and pilot Fabián Peláez, accused of kidnapping and prostituting his partner, was released today by the Judiciary. Peláez regained his freedom after the decision of federal judge Daniel Rafecas, who approved the request of his lawyer Diego Carbone, dismissing the petition of prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita.

Judge Rafecas justified his decision based on the possible risk of flight, despite the fact that Peláez has a residence in San Juan and works as a surgeon at a clinic in that province. Prosecutor Pollicita argued that Peláez should report monthly to the court, but the judge considered that there is no evidence that the accused could obstruct the investigation.

According to police sources cited by the Noticias Argentinas agency, on Monday, January 27, a group of neighbors in Palermo held Peláez, the partner of the victim, who was accused of holding her against her will, drugging her, and sexually exploiting her. The victim, identified as María José M.P., stated that they had been a couple for five years, both from San Juan, and that she jumped from the first floor when she saw the opportunity to escape.

After the incident, the woman was assisted by SAME and transferred to Fernández Hospital with multiple trauma.
