Javier Milei Leads Key Meeting Ahead of Legislative Session

President Javier Milei led a meeting with his team of ministers and key collaborators at the Casa Rosada before the session in the Chamber of Deputies regarding the future of the Primaries, Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory (PASO) elections. The meeting took place on the eve of the session that will seek to address the suspension of the PASO, with a weak quorum to achieve the half sanction of the project. The meeting, which lasted from 9:30 until shortly before noon, also extended to discuss other topics such as the trial in absentia and the Reiteration Law project.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Cabinet, Guillermo Francos, the head of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, Santiago Bausili, and several ministers such as Patricia Bullrich, Mario Lugones, Mariano Cáneo Libarona, Luis Petri, and Luis “Toto” Caputo. Also participating were the secretaries Karina Milei, Javier Herrera Bravo, the presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, and advisor Santiago Caputo. Some members, such as Martín Menem, Gerardo Werthein, and Sandra Pettovello, were absent for various reasons.

The meeting was characterized by its secrecy, being a symbol of these gatherings, which has led to the dismissal of attendees who previously leaked information to the press. The president exempted other Cabinet members such as Deputy Chief of Cabinet, José Rolandi, and the Deputy Chief of the Interior, Lisandro Catalán. In parallel, in the offices of the Interior Secretariat, Catalán received the governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, to discuss the situation regarding the fires in the province.

Prior to the session in Congress, there is a push to secure the necessary quorum to initiate the debate. Authorities are attentive to achieve the attendance of at least 129 legislators to proceed. The Government modified the call for Cabinet meetings due to information leaks, which led to the dismissal of some officials. Despite the challenges, the meeting and the session in Congress are expected to proceed as planned and to obtain the half sanction for the suspension of the PASO.
