The Argentine Government has announced a restructuring in the Law of Ministries, which implies that the Ministry of Security will adopt the new designation of the Ministry of National Security. This change highlights the crucial role in the fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other complex crimes.
Under this modification, President Javier Milei has appointed Patricia Bullrich as the new head of the Ministry of National Security, according to Decree 59/2025 published in the Official Bulletin. The Decree, signed by Milei, emphasizes the importance of highlighting the assigned competencies and the need to adapt the ministry to a new vision of security.
The libertarian administration bases this change on a renewed focus on the concept of 'Security', where the life, liberty, and property of citizens are considered fundamental pillars for the comprehensive development of each individual. Additionally, it is highlighted that the Decree eliminates the Press Secretariat of the Presidency of the Nation, whose functions will be integrated into the new Secretariat of Communication and Media.
As part of this restructuring, the presidential cabinet will consist of eight ministries: Foreign Affairs, Defense, Economy, Justice, National Security, Health, Human Capital, and Deregulation and Transformation of the State. There will also be a reorganization of presidential secretariats, which will cover areas such as General, Legal and Technical, Strategic Planning Normative, State Intelligence, Communication and Media, and Culture.
In summary, the Argentine Government, through Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 58/2025, is implementing significant changes in the ministerial structure with the aim of reorganizing the functions of the cabinet.
