The president of the Holocaust Museum of Buenos Aires, Marcelo Mindlin, opened the event in which Javier Milei was absent due to scheduling issues. Mindlin thanked the libertarian leader 'for his firm demand for the release of those kidnapped by Hamas, for supporting the right to the existence of the State of Israel, and for promoting the inclusion of Hamas on the list of terrorist groups.'
During the ceremony, the traditional lighting of candles took place, attended by Holocaust survivors such as André Gategno, Eva Rosenthal, among others. President Milei highlighted that they commemorated both the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the search for the release of hostages in Gaza.
The president warned about the current situation in the world, alluding to similarities with the period before the Holocaust. He pointed out that the attacks on Israel reflect antisemitism and hatred towards Western civilization. Milei also emphasized the importance of raising a voice against antisemitic intolerance and terrorism.
At the event for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, figures such as presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, Minister of Justice Mariano Cáneo Libarona, Education Secretary Carlos Torrendell, Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Bustamante, and the Israeli ambassador to Argentina, Eyal Sela, were present.
President Milei defended Elon Musk and thanked Donald Trump for his support in the release of those kidnapped by Hamas. He referred to the 'Nazi' accusations thrown by the left against those who defend Israel and Musk. He also highlighted Trump's commitment to negotiations for the release of hostages, including Argentines still kidnapped.
In his speech, Milei called for not forgetting the victims of the Holocaust and continuing to remember the horrors caused by intolerance and hatred. He underscored the importance of continuing to fight against terrorism and intolerance in today's society.
