Jorge Macri Supports Dialogue and Election Reform

The head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri, expressed his support for a possible candidacy of his cousin, former president Mauricio Macri, in this year's legislative elections. He emphasized that it would be positive for Mauricio Macri to run as a candidate. Regarding the potential elimination of the Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory Primaries (PASO), Jorge Macri shared his opinion that the spending on PASO in Argentina currently makes no sense.

Jorge Macri said in an interview that confrontation is not his style, although he acknowledged having supported candidates with a more combative approach. He highlighted that a dialogue table is fundamental and advocated for finding consensus rather than confrontations. He also recalled that Mauricio Macri has been generous in suspending the PASO in the past, suggesting that he would support that measure again.

In relation to the stance on the elimination of the PASO, Jorge Macri criticized the dichotomy between keeping or eliminating them without considering other intermediate options. He underscored the importance of avoiding extremes and advocated for seeking consensus to move forward as a society. He stated that Mauricio Macri's generosity was evident in actions such as the suspension of the PASO in the past and suggested that the same attitude could apply in the future.
