The national government has advanced in a strategy to strengthen local vaccine production and expand its regional export, with a projection of annual income of 240 million dollars over the next decade, within the framework of the Meeting of Pharmaceutical Producers organized by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The event took place during the official visit to Argentina of the PAHO director, Jarbas Barbosa, and focused on designing technology transfer initiatives to increase the country's productive capacities and enhance the regional distribution of vaccines through Regional Revolving Funds. During the opening, Minister of Health Mario Lugones highlighted that the pharmaceutical industry represents “a strategic engine of health” and stated that the country today offers favorable conditions for investment. Thanks to the management of President Javier Milei, we have clear rules of the game, fiscal balance, and legal security,” he affirmed. From the health ministry, they also emphasized that Argentina has advanced in an unprecedented scheme that has enabled the 24 jurisdictions to have enabling agreements to access the Strategic Fund at the subnational level, which makes the country the first in the region to have this mechanism fully available for the provinces. At the high-level table, along with Lugones and officials from the Ministry of Health, participated Eva Jané Llopis, PAHO representative in Argentina, and representatives of national laboratories, as the Argentine News Agency was able to ascertain. From the international organization, they highlighted Argentina's biotechnological capacity, qualified human capital, and institutional framework as key factors to consolidate investments and expand regional vaccine production. Barbosa, for his part, emphasized the importance of Regional Revolving Funds as a tool to ensure the availability of vaccines and medicines in the Americas. We believe that the role of the State is not to put obstacles in the way of the private sector. As he pointed out, it is a mechanism with more than four decades of continuous operation, sustained on criteria of equity, solidarity, and transparency. In parallel, the Ministry of Health, Senasa, and the Undersecretariat of Environment signed an agreement with PAHO to strengthen preparedness and response to Zoonotic Avian Influenza, with the aim of reducing human exposure, preventing transmission between animals and people, and mitigating its health and economic impact. Likewise, an act was signed to form the Consultative Table for Primary Health Care in Argentina, a joint space with PAHO, the IDB, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which will seek to coordinate projects and investments, align international cooperation with national priorities, and reinforce the primary care strategy throughout the country.
