This demonstrates that the culture of immediacy continues to be an obstacle to collective mental health. Rest
'We must understand that rest is not a reward for effort, but a biological and psychological requirement for sustainable performance,' states María Inés Solé, a PCC (Professional Certified Coach) with ICF Argentina.
She provides tips on how to manage rest and connect with vacations:
- Sync with natural wake-up times: waking up without an alarm is the definitive indicator that the body has regained its biological balance.
- Intentions are not enough; physical barriers are necessary: silence work notifications, temporarily delete apps that passively consume time, and set usage windows.
Buenos Aires, January 28, 2026 (NA) -- The difficulty of disconnecting from the work environment affects nearly half of Argentines, which in many cases leads to the dreaded burnout, when work-related stress becomes unsustainable.
This comes from a recent study titled 'Vacations 3.0,' conducted by Bumeran, which was accessed by the Noticias Argentinas news agency.
The data reveal an alarming false disconnection even when physically away from the office: 45% of workers admit they fail to disconnect from their tasks during their time off. This trend is fueled by technology, as nearly half of those surveyed (49%) admit to still checking work email or their work phone while they should be resting.
But the pressure is not only internal: 27% of Argentine workers say they remain connected because they receive urgent messages or requests from their bosses or colleagues during their days off.
Allowing the body to dictate the end of the rest period is a mental health tool to pay off the 'sleep debt.'
- Deactivate 'alert mode' with new stimuli: getting out of the routine is not just changing the scenery, but breaking cognitive patterns. Changing the usual breakfast, seeking direct contact with nature, or striking up conversations with people outside our circle helps to reset the mind.
- Strategic management of the digital environment: reducing cell phone use is vital to combat digital anxiety. Avoiding screens before bed is non-negotiable for melatonin to act and for rest to be deep. The key is to limit screen time and apply the 20-20-20 rule (look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes).
Managing anxiety
Only by learning to manage anxiety and eliminate the guilt from resting will it be possible to transform vacations into the true recovery engine that is needed.
The burnout syndrome or 'burned-out worker syndrome' is feared, which refers to the chronicity of work-related stress. This manifests as a state of physical and mental exhaustion that persists over time and can alter a worker's personality and self-esteem.
It is a process in which the worker progressively loses interest in their tasks and develops a negative psychological reaction to their job.
