UBA and partners hold HIV testing event in Buenos Aires

The University of Buenos Aires, along with civil associations, held a day of testing and awareness about HIV/AIDS as part of World AIDS Day. The event included free medical check-ups and a symbolic action on the subway.


UBA and partners hold HIV testing event in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, December 1 (NA) – The University of Buenos Aires (UBA), together with the Alfonso Farías Civil Association and Subterráneos de Buenos Aires, held a day of testing and other activities aimed at prevention and the dissemination of information about HIV and AIDS, within the framework of World AIDS Day. According to the Argentine News Agency, the objective of the event was to raise awareness and provide support to people living with HIV. The university carried out a special action on Line H of the subway, where a train was symbolically intervened. Additionally, during the journey, volunteers from the Faculty of Medical Sciences and students from the University Federation of Buenos Aires (FUBA) provided information to passengers, while DJs and live bands also participated in the activities. Participating in the opening ceremony were Emiliano Yacobitti, Vice Rector of UBA; Jorge Pasart, Secretary of University Extension; and Matias Rojo, a member of the University's Superior Council; along with actress Virginia Lago (godmother of the Farías Association); Buenos Aires City legislator Francisco Loupias; President of Subterráneos de Buenos Aires, Javier Ignacio Ibáñez; and other authorities. The subway departed from the Hospitales station on Line H and made its entire route to the Facultad de Derecho station, where the day continued with an operation from the “UBA en Acción” program. Rapid HIV tests, primary health care actions (blood pressure control and glucose testing), nutritional counseling, kinesiology consultations, blood group determination, dental, psychological, ophthalmological, and veterinary attention, among others, were carried out for the neighbors.
