Buenos Aires Health Minister Calls Anti-Vaccine Campaign a Threat to the Right to Health

The Minister of Health of Buenos Aires Province, Nicolás Kreplak, this Friday launched a renewed anti-vaccine campaign during an event at the Chamber of Deputies, warning that those who promote it seek the 'destruction of the right to health'. On the occasion of the opening of the 141st Scientific Week at the San Martín Hospital in La Plata, the official from Axel Kicillof's government stated that discussing vaccines 'undermines one of the pillars of our society, which is the right to health'. 'They cannot come and use our language, our concepts, the ethical value that society gives to doctors, nurses, health workers, the titles that public universities have given to these people as graduates, to destroy the right to health,' he emphasized. 'We start with vaccines, we go to the WHO, discuss the pandemic, discuss your work during the pandemic, we come to discuss vaccines, and then start discussing what you are entitled to. There is a right to health that is for all,' Kreplak replied. Finally, the minister addressed health professionals: 'You see and know that if it were not a right, if we, the State, were not obligated to guarantee medications, that person would die in your arms.' 'We work every day because we believe that there is something bigger behind it, which is a right to health,' he concluded. Last Thursday, Kreplak had participated in a plenary session of committees in the Chamber of Deputies focused on the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of vaccines as an immunization technique. This meeting took place simultaneously with the controversial 'anti-vaccine' event organized by national deputy PRO Marilú Quiroz.
