The renowned Argentine comedian and actor, Antonio Gasalla, passed away at the age of 84 last Tuesday at the Otamendi Sanatorium. Gasalla, known for beloved characters such as Mama Cora from the movie "Waiting for the Hearse" and the grandmother on Susana Giménez's television show, had been hospitalized on March 4 due to respiratory complications arising from pneumonia.

In a previous interview, Gasalla expressed his admiration for figures like Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, considering them geniuses in their respective disciplines. Although he did not have a significant connection to any Argentine football club, he showed interest in the Argentine National Team and football in general.

Born in 1941 in Ramos Mejía, Gasalla began his career in the 1960s in the café-concert scene, standing out alongside artists like Carlos Perciavalle. His sharp humor and ability for social satire made him an iconic figure in Argentine television, film, and theater, earning awards such as the Martín Fierro, Estrella de Mar, and ACE.
