Mass Protests Over Pensioners' Healthcare Crisis

More than 5 million pensioners in Argentina lack medical coverage, prompting ATE's protest at PAMI's headquarters in Buenos Aires. The rally demands immediate reforms to ensure healthcare access.

Mass Protests Over Pensioners' Healthcare Crisis

The State Workers Association (ATE) has called for a mobilization tomorrow at 1 PM at the central headquarters of PAMI, located at Avenida Corrientes 655 in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The reason for this mobilization is to denounce a serious crisis within the organization that leaves more than 5 million retirees across the country without medical coverage.

Rodolfo Aguiar, General Secretary of ATE National, expressed his concern for the current situation, pointing out that retirees, having contributed throughout their lives, do not have guaranteed free and unrestricted access to the healthcare system. Aguiar emphasized the need to stop the draining of PAMI and the urgency to correct the deficiencies that put the medical care of members at risk.

Regarding corruption allegations, it has been mentioned that there is mismanagement of the social security resources, with uncontrolled payments, irregularities in agreements with private providers, and unjustified charges to beneficiaries. In addition, there have been reported delays in the delivery of medications and a lack of procurement of essential items like beds or canes for members.

The mobilization will also focus on the situation of workers, who face stagnant wages and arbitrary layoffs. ATE demands the cessation of intervention in PAMI and the normalization of the organization to ensure transparent and effective management.
