Prime Video premiered the new series "Cromañón," based on the tragic story featuring a large cast and becoming a global streaming success. The series debuted in 240 countries on Friday, November 8, consists of eight episodes, and stars Dani La Chepi, Esteban Lamothe, Soledad Villamil, and Muriel Santa Ana, among others.
However, the absence of songs from Callejeros, the band involved in the story, surprised several viewers. Throughout the series, songs from other well-known national rock bands such as Jóvenes Pordioseros, Las Pelotas, Intoxicados, La Renga, Ratones Paranoicos, and Los Pérez García are heard, as well as a song by Santiago Motorizado. Additionally, "Triste canción de amor" by the Mexican band El Tri, popularized in Argentina by La Renga, is also included in the series.
Despite the production's attempts to obtain the rights to use Callejeros' songs, the group denied any possibility of participation. The episodes tell the story of a group of teenage friends who were victims of the fire at the Republic Cromañón club in Buenos Aires in 2004, from the perspective of Malena, directed by Marialy Rivas and Fabiana Tiscornia.
However, the series has generated controversies, especially among some survivors and victims' families. Members of the organization No Nos Cuenten Cromañón, made up of survivors and families, expressed their disapproval of the series, emphasizing that while it is important to talk about Cromañón, they criticized creating an economic profit at the expense of the pain still present in the affected community.
The production, based on real events that marked the country, recalls the lives of the victims of one of the most tragic events in Argentina. The plot follows a 19-year-old girl who survives the fire in Cromañón and years later returns to her childhood neighborhood trying to overcome the guilt she feels for having survived.
Amid the criticisms, former members of Callejeros have declined any participation in the project. The organization emphasized the importance of respecting the memory of those affected by the tragedy and made available a mental health assistance program for survivors and their families, stressing that their lives are not a movie but real life.
