"Juana," a play staged by the Buenos Aires Theater Complex, focuses on the main historical figures named Juana, with Juana Viale in the leading role. Under the direction of Chevi Muraday and the dramaturgy of Juan Carlos Rubio, the piece explores the lives of women who made their mark in history with the name Juana.
The performances, carried out by Juana Viale and a group of outstanding dancers, are distinguished by their exceptional technique and striking movements that blend acrobatics with contemporary style. The scenic adaptation by Vanesa Abramovich complements each image, immersing the audience in the presented stories.
Through artistic expression, the play constantly questions the role of women in society, from the synopsis to the dialogues. Texts by authors such as Clarice Lispector and Marina Seresesky, as well as Juan Carlos Rubio, intertwine in the plot to explore the cycles of the world and the profound feminine nature.
The plot, which unfolds non-chronologically, presents Joan of Arc, Juana Doña, Juana the mad, among others, in various acts that link together to the rhythm of the play. The Spanish actress Aitana Sánchez was responsible for portraying the roles for the first time in Madrid, while Juana Viale takes on the challenge in Argentina.
The play, part of the Buenos Aires International Festival, has been on stage since its premiere in 2019 in Spain. It combines fragments from different authors and eras, merging scenes from the Old and New Testaments, works by William Shakespeare, and texts by Juana Inés de la Cruz, among others.
Through striking choreographic movements and a staging that defies chronological limits, "Juana" presents itself as a spectacle that invites the audience to reflect on the relevance of these historical figures today. With the outstanding performance of Juana Viale and her multifaceted ability, the play promises to immerse the public in an emotional journey that explores the very essence of women throughout history.
