Public classes in Plaza de Mayo during national strike

In the context of the week-long national strike called by the trade union federations, public classes will be held in Plaza de Mayo. Subjects such as Biological Chemistry, Advanced Calculus, Molecular Genetics, History of Psychology, among other academic disciplines, will be taught.

In addition to the classes, it is expected that the Vice-Rector of the National University of General Sarmiento will give a theoretical conference, and teachers from the National University of San Martín will also join with some classes. This initiative aims to provide an outlet for the discontent of teachers, non-teaching staff, and students, as a large part of university teachers earn salaries below the poverty line, despite dedicating time and effort to their training and the education of future professionals.

According to Ileana Celotto, General Secretary of the Teaching Union Association of the University of Buenos Aires: "The call and the demand go beyond UBA. These public classes in Plaza de Mayo provide an outlet for the discontent of teachers, non-teaching staff, and students (...). That is why we will continue this fight."

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 22, from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the aim of demanding a salary adjustment and an increase in the university budget. In addition to the classes, assemblies of science workers and non-teaching staff will be organized, a science fair, a talk on pensions, and an open radio with students as part of the planned activities.
