Buenos Aires, April 5 (NA) – A former City police officer working as a currency delivery driver defended himself with a firearm during an ambush, leaving one assailant seriously injured in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Núñez. The violent incident took place last Wednesday around 14:30 at Vedia Street 2100, when the 53-year-old victim arrived to what he believed was a routine delivery of money packets. Investigation sources informed the Argentine News Agency that the assailants had hacked a phone to lure the man to that address and ambush him with four suspects in two motorcycles. Upon getting out of his vehicle, the worker was intercepted by the criminals, and one of them drew a firearm to threaten him. "It was a very loud bang; we came out not understanding what was happening and saw a man lying on the floor asking for help," a witness recounted about the moments after the detonation that shook the area. Facing imminent danger, the former officer reacted quickly: he managed to create distance and, after a struggle, drew his .357 caliber Taurus revolver and fired a shot that hit the aggressor in the right thigh, near the groin. While the 28-year-old criminal fell injured on the sidewalk, losing a lot of blood, his three accomplices fled the scene at high speed and remain at large. The sequence was captured by security cameras that recorded both the blast and the desperate screams of those involved. Amidst widespread panic, some neighbors intervened to assist the injured man, using a sheet as an improvised tourniquet to stop the bleeding until the ambulances arrived. A chilling audio was also made public where the suspect is heard begging for mercy and pleading not to be left to die while waiting for medical transfer under police custody. "Screams, people looking out of windows and general confusion," another neighbor described the chaotic atmosphere in the block. The shot assailant remains hospitalized in guarded condition, while security forces analyze the footage to identify and locate the rest of the gang that planned the robbery.
