Buenos Aires Collapse Victims Allowed Back into Homes

Victims of the collapse of the “Estación Buenos Aires” building complex in the Parque Patricios neighborhood of Buenos Aires will be able to re-enter their apartments in a coordinated and progressive manner after the partial lifting of the closure. Sources from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the City of Buenos Aires informed the Noticias Argentinas agency that the Criminal, Contravention and Misdemeanor Prosecutor's Office No. 31 authorized residents of Sector 2 to retrieve their belongings from the affected homes, after the General Directorate of Auxiliary Service and Emergencies analyzed the inspections and technical reports presented by the Works Directorate and the intervening structural engineer. In this context, City Firefighters will have to verify the identities of the victims and accompany them when they enter their homes, while there will be a 24-hour police guard in the vicinity of the area, which will remain fenced. However, the restriction to enter the area where the parking slab collapsed on March 3rd, under which several vehicles were left in the rubble, remains in effect. Some of the owners and tenants are staying in hotels and relatives' homes while the investigation into the causes of the disaster continues.
