Buenos Aires, March 9 (NA) – British singer-songwriter Boy George, an 80s pop icon and former lead of Culture Club, acknowledged using artificial intelligence as part of his creative process for composing songs. According to the Argentine News Agency, during his appearance on the Happy Place podcast hosted by Fearne Cotton, the musician revealed that this technology has been particularly useful for writing lyrics: “This practice has really helped me as a lyricist.” The artist explained that one of the reasons he is interested in working with artificial intelligence is the creative freedom it offers. As he noted, by using these tools, he doesn’t have to worry about other people’s opinions while developing his ideas. “I’m a top-level songwriter, so I compose top-level melodies. Everyone I work with sends me tracks, and I sit with them and play them over and over again,” he commented. Additionally, Boy George revealed that he holds conversations with AI systems during his creative process. In this regard, he mentioned that he even dialogues with ChatGPT and is often surprised by the responses he gets. The musician also explained that he discovered the tool can adapt to the style he’s aiming for if it’s trained during the interaction process. According to information published by Farout Magazine, the singer reportedly used AI to re-record vocals for some of his biggest hits, including “Karma Chameleon,” to avoid potential conflicts related to the rights to the original recordings. Boy George’s statements contrast with the stance of other renowned artists, such as Paul McCartney and Elton John, who have spoken out against the use of AI in the creative industry. However, he is not the only musician to have expressed a similar view on the technology, as Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler also admitted to using an AI-generated singer to extract lyrics from songs.
