Buenos Aires allows pets to ride the subway for free, but with strict rules to ensure coexistence with other passengers. According to the regulation, only individuals over 18 years old are permitted to travel, and only one animal per passenger is allowed. The pet-friendly system has been in place since 2017, when the city legislature enacted Law 5.687, which authorizes the transport of dogs and cats on the subway network. Specific requirements include using a cage or carrier without wheels, presenting a valid health certificate with a rabies vaccination, and using fixed stairs or elevators instead of escalators. Passengers must stay in the last car of each train. The carrier must remain closed and cannot be placed on seats or block doors. Pets are allowed only on Saturdays from 1 PM, and all day on Sundays and public holidays. However, entry may still be restricted due to overcrowding, delays, or situations affecting safety and order within stations and cars.
