Buenos Aires residents seek housing after building collapse

Residents of the “Estación Buenos Aires” housing complex in the Parque Patricios neighborhood held an assembly to seek an urgent response on where they will live in the coming days after the building collapsed on March 3rd. According to the Argentine News Agency and as indicated by local residents, the affected people will hold the meeting starting at 6:00 PM, out of a need for solutions, in addition to the spaces provided by the city government, which were used by 100 neighbors, although 300 families were evacuated in total. Hours earlier, journalist Magalí Ahrendts, who also lived in the complex, spoke with Radio Rivadavia and expressed her uncertainty about the future: “I don't know what is going to happen; what do I know, if now everything is done in a moderately safe way. The indignation is on the rise, since the apartments have been closed and entry is not allowed to the owners, not even to retrieve belongings or pets. My distrust is already total. I have to think about finding another home, another house; what am I going to do with the credit?” “The neighbors are thinking about not paying this month's fee, in some way we want to demand it, not only from the construction company, which is COSUD, but also from the Mortgage Bank, which is the bank that has allowed us to do all this, that they give us a hand, some help; I don't know, we don't really know what to ask for,” lamented. Meanwhile, in television statements, other victims stated that they are trying to understand what legal actions to take, as they emphasized that “there are many complaints from the neighbors” that have been generated at least five years ago, where they denounced falls of ceramics or the explosion of tiles. Likewise, they stated that “no one has approached” from the construction company COSUD, while pointing out that “there is no one working”.
