Daniel Hugo Piazzolla Dies | Ours Abroad News
The world of tango lost a key figure on the night of December 26, when Daniel Hugo Piazzolla, son of the legendary Astor Piazzolla, passed away at the age of 80. His death was caused by complications from pulmonary emphysema.
Born on February 28 1945 in Buenos Aires, Daniel grew up surrounded by music and travel. His parents, Astor and Dedé Wolff, raised their children in a rich artistic environment, inspiring their future careers.
In the mid‑1970s Daniel became a central member of the Electronic Octet, playing synthesizers and percussion. The project helped propel the new‑tango movement by blending traditional tango with jazz and electronic elements.
After his father’s stroke in 1992, Daniel continued to promote the Piazzolla legacy. He performed, recorded, and curated works that revisited the early stages of the Electronic Octet, keeping the music alive for new audiences.
