Intense Storm Floods Streets of Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, December 23 (NA) – An unusually intense storm hit the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) this Tuesday, turning main arteries into veritable rivers, as happened with the Panamerican Highway, where cars were completely flooded. Just hours before Christmas Eve celebrations, the torrential rain caused dramatic scenes in the northern part of Greater Buenos Aires, where drivers had to be evacuated after being trapped by the sudden rise of water, according to the Argentine News Agency. The meteorological phenomenon on December 23 combined wind gusts, intense electrical activity, and a massive discharge of water in just a few minutes. The result was an immediate collapse in the drainage system of key access routes, added to complications in air transport and reports of hail in various parts of the conurbation. The most critical point was recorded on the Panamerican Highway, at the height of Thames Street, on the border between Boulogne and Villa Adelina. In that area, the flooding was so severe that several vehicles were submerged almost completely. Witnesses and victims shared videos on social media showing cars with water up to the roof.
