Over the years, they secretly reunite to sustain a relationship marked by passion, guilt, desire, and social mandates that force them to live their truth in the shadows.

The play recaptures the intimate and painful spirit of the original story: a love that defies time, conventions, and even fear itself.

Jack and Ennis, two men for whom society had laid out a clear and conventional path, had no intention of following it: love happened to them. In the solitude of a rugged landscape, amidst hard days and shared silences, a profound bond emerges between them, blossoming into an unexpected and forbidden love for the era.

At the end of the season, each returns to his life: Jack tries to build his career and marries, while Ennis marries and starts a family. In the perfect place, but in the wrong context.

«We can't even decide to love or stop loving someone,» the story states. «Trying to tame it is, if not impossible, at least very painful,» said the director.

However, the connection between them remains intact. The production is by Joaquín and Bautista Laviaguerre, alongside Adrián Suar, who are betting on a moving, contemporary, and visually powerful staging of this modern classic.

«Secret in the Mountains», the theatrical adaptation of the iconic film that redefined contemporary cinema, will have its premiere for the first time on Argentine stages in May 2026 with a top-tier production. According to what was confirmed by the Argentine News Agency, with a leading duo that promises exceptional stage intensity, just as was the case with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, Benjamín Vicuña and Esteban Lamothe will act under the direction of Javier Daulte, one of the most influential directors in Argentine theater, and the adaptation by Marcos Carnevale, will bring the iconic characters of this story to life, where, as they themselves say, «one doesn't fall in love with whom one wants to».

Forbidden love, emotional tension, and a sensitivity that permeates everything combine to create an intimate, raw, and deeply human theatrical experience. Set in the United States, the play narrates the intense and complex bond between two young cowboys who, in the immensity of the mountains, discover a feeling as powerful as it is impossible within the social context that condemns them.

«You don't fall in love with who you want to» resonates as a sentence that irreversibly marks the destiny of both. The direction of Javier Daulte brings his renowned ability to articulate dramatic depth, narrative rhythm, and a sensitive look at extreme emotions, without losing closeness to the audience.

«Secret in the Mountains is a love story as heartbreaking as it is wonderful,» expressed Javier Daulte.

«Secret in the Mountains» follows the story of Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar, two young cowboys who meet in 1963 when they are hired to herd sheep.
