Two injured in Buenos Aires theater stampede hospitalized

Buenos Aires, Dec 7 (NA) – Two of the 20 people treated at the Gran Rivadavia Theater in Flores were transferred to hospitals for recovery, while the rest of those assisted left the place on their own, according to the head of the SAME (Emergency Medical Attention Service), Alberto Crescenti, confirmed just before 5 p.m. this Sunday. According to the Argentine News Agency, the two people who suffered from distress due to overcrowding and heat, presumably from ticket overselling, were taken by ambulance to Santojanni Hospital in the Liniers neighborhood and to Vélez Sarsfield Hospital in Monte Castro. "We transferred two patients because they were taking too long to recover, so we decided to take them to the hospital to finish stabilizing them," Crescenti stated, while specifying that a total of "six ambulances" from the Emergency Medical Attention Service of the City of Buenos Aires participated in the operation. The head of SAME confirmed that the call for help was made by a private ambulance service that was at the venue under contract for the event, and immediately emergency personnel, including triage doctors specialized in rapid assessment in cases of multiple patients to first address the most serious cases and transfer those in need, arrived at the scene. Crescenti said that "we decided with our superiors (from the City) to cancel the event and evacuate the place in an orderly manner, which was left in the hands of the City Police, because the logical thing was to avoid worse things." The incident occurred at the aforementioned theater, located at Av. Rivadavia 8600, due to a possible overselling of tickets, which caused anger and shouting from the public, followed by shoving, as a result of which some people, including some minors, began to suffer from distress and faint. The venue was set to host a private event where students from various dance schools were to perform, but due to what happened, the City Government proceeded to the preventive closure of the theater through the City Control Agency. #AgenciaNA
