MALBA Adds Works by Latin American Artists to Its Collection

The Latin American Art Museum (MALBA) announced the addition of works by over a dozen Latin American artists to its permanent collection through its Acquisitions Committee and the museum's donation system. The new selection includes painting, photography, sculpture, and works at the intersection of art and technology, featuring pieces by Teresinha Soares, Luis Ouvrard, María Martorell, Dalila Puzzovio, Luis Frangella, and six other creators from the region. Thanks to the Acquisitions Committee, the museum has acquired Deus Criou o Homem e... (from the Acontecências series) (1967) by Brazilian artist Teresinha Soares; La trilla (1935) by Argentine Luis Ouvrard; Ocinaico (1971) by María Martorell; a photograph from the Mientras unos construyen, otros destruyen (1979) series by Dalila Puzzovio; and two pieces by Luis Frangella: 3D Printed Floors (1974) and Geométrico (1980). "These acquisitions strengthen key areas of the collection, from the social realism of the 1930s to new figuration, geometric abstraction, and the intersections between art and technology," highlighted Artistic Director Rodrigo Moura. The museum's curatorial team is responsible for evaluating and selecting the proposals that are integrated into the collection. With these additions, the museum deepens its mission to represent the cultural diversity of the continent from a plural and inclusive perspective, expanding its heritage with works from different generations, languages, and geographies. "This year we reached a record commitment that allowed us to add six new works," stated Elena Nofal, Director of Development. In the context of arteba 2025, the Committee also incorporated seven works and series by Argentine artists: works by Marcelo Benítez, a new piece by Martorell (Tangente, 1967), Venus Bolita (2023/2024) by Flor Alvarado, an Untitled (1969) by Joan Wall, IOMMI (2025) by Laura Ojeda Bär, Sembrador (2025) by Sandro Pereira, and the Nuevo Realismo (2022-2024) series by Martín Legón. Through donations, the museum received two paintings by Julio Eduardo Payró and Raúl Lozza, a sculpture by Ulises Beisso, a photograph by Chilean Paz Errázuriz, three works by Shipibo-Konibo artist Lastenia Canayo (Pecón Quena), and a serigraph by Osvaldo Salerno. "We are pleased to have such a committed group supporting the growth of the museum's collection."
