The last finding by Abuelas was made in January of this year when they announced "grandson 139". The new Netflix miniseries called "El Eternauta" consists of 6 episodes with an average duration of 45 to 50 minutes each, ideal for a marathon. The episodes have been available on the streaming platform since April 30 and include "Trick Night", "Step into the Sun", "Magnetism", "Credo", "Landscape" and "Cold Tomato Juice".
"El Eternauta" is a science fiction work created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld, who went missing in 1977. Although the plot is not inspired by real events, it has a connection to an event that affected Argentine society. The story unfolds in Buenos Aires and revolves around a group of people who witness a deadly and unusual snowfall in the city. They soon discover that their enemies are not from this planet and must confront the threat.
Héctor Germán Oesterheld, creator of "El Eternauta", was kidnapped and disappeared by the military government during the dictatorship in Argentina, along with his four daughters, Beatriz, Diana, Estela, and Marina, due to his involvement with the Montoneros group. Diana and Marina were pregnant at the time of the kidnapping, as were other children and grandchildren who continue to be missing. Following the success of the Netflix miniseries, the search for Oesterheld's grandchildren intensified.
Argentine human rights organizations launched a campaign to search for Oesterheld's grandchildren, motivated by the impact of the series. Manuel Gonçalves Granada, a restituted grandson and secretary of Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, pointed out that cultural events like this provide an opportunity to spread the search. The campaign, viralized on social media with the slogan "Are you watching El Eternauta?", invites those born between November 1976 and January 1978 to contact organizations to seek their true identity. About 300 people, children of the disappeared during the dictatorship, continue to be searched for, many of whom were illegally appropriated and had their identities changed.
