This Wednesday, the first electric bus line is launched in the City of Buenos Aires, which is part of a new transportation model driven by the local government. The route of these modern, noise-free, and emission-free vehicles will connect Parque Lezama with Plaza San Martín, passing through various neighborhoods such as Retiro, San Nicolás, Monserrat, San Telmo, and La Boca. For the first two months, the service will be free.
The electric buses, which are seven meters long and can accommodate 30 passengers (13 seated), have a range of 170 kilometers on a full charge and can reach a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour. This initiative seeks to reduce pollutant emissions in the City and improve the quality of life for residents.
In the words of the Head of Government, Jorge Macri, "Getting around has to be a more comfortable, safe, and fast experience, with a modern, efficient, and sustainable transportation service in an orderly traffic scenario and with first-class infrastructure." With 36 strategic stops, one approximately every three blocks, the buses will cover 7.3 kilometers one way and 5 kilometers back, estimating transportation for more than 500,000 passengers per year.
These electric units will travel at the same speed as traditional buses, adhering to the limits established in each area. The company Transportes Atlántida has been awarded the operation of this service for two years. Additionally, the presence of female drivers at the wheel of the electric buses is highlighted.
Regarding the safety and comfort of passengers, the vehicles are equipped with security cameras, passenger counting sensors, and a QR code system to inform about the arrival of the next bus. With this initiative, the City of Buenos Aires takes an important step towards a more sustainable and efficient public transport system, promoting responsible urban mobility.
