Justice for the Barracas Massacre

A year ago, on May 6, 2024, the Barracas Massacre occurred, a tragic episode in which several lesbian women were attacked in a boarding house. To commemorate this event and demand justice, various organizations will mobilize on Tuesday, May 6, from Plaza Colombia to the site where the attack took place. The main slogan of the call is 'Justice is that it never happens again' and it includes the demand for 'Reparation for Sofía', the only survivor of the attack.

The self-convened organizations emphasize the importance of remembering this event to prevent it from happening again in the future and to demand justice for the victims. Furthermore, there has been a call to memory and resistance, with the placement of a commemorative plaque at the hotel where the attack occurred, remembering the women killed because of their sexual orientation.

Over the past year, various actions and mobilizations have taken place to demand justice and highlight the violence suffered by the LGBTIQ+ community. Despite the efforts, justice has been insufficient, and the judge in charge of the case has been recused for dismissing the hate motivation behind the crime.

The fight for justice and for the dignity of the victims continues, with calls for new gatherings and actions to remember and make visible what happened. The importance of keeping the memory of the victims alive and fighting against violence and hatred toward LGBTIQ+ individuals is the central message of these mobilizations and commemorative activities.
