The head of Government of the City, Jorge Macri, confirmed his interest in having Formula 1 and MotoGP return to Buenos Aires. During the opening of the 2025 legislative sessions at the city legislature, he expressed his desire to once again position Argentina as a host for high-level international sports events.
"We continue to work to bring Formula 1 and MotoGP to Argentina. We want to be an international host of this wonderful spectacle again, which also positions cities in the world," Macri pointed out in his speech.
The head of Government highlighted investments in tourism and cultural infrastructure, such as the rehabilitation of Caminito and La Boca, as well as the renewal of the City Park and the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Racetrack.
In recent years, the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Racetrack has been the scene of prominent national competitions, marking a resurgence of motorsport in the city. The current objective is to achieve Grade 2 homologation from the International Automobile Federation to adapt the circuit and be prepared to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
In negotiations with Formula One Management (FOM), a new layout for the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Racetrack has been designed, considering 2027 as a possible year for the top category of motorsport to return to the country.
The return of Formula 1 would involve the participation of Franco Colapinto, an Argentine driver who recently raced for Williams and currently represents Alpine in the competition. Colapinto is considered the pillar for the return of Formula 1 to Argentina, after 23 years of absence in the country.
