The Government of the City of Buenos Aires announced the distribution of 58,000 free tablets and netbooks through the Sarmiento Plan. The main objective of this initiative is to close the digital divide in public schools in the city by providing electronic devices to primary and secondary level students.
The beneficiaries of this program include students enrolled in state-managed public schools in the City of Buenos Aires, those attending primary or secondary levels, and those who have not previously received a device through the Sarmiento Plan, unless it is a case of obsolescence or replacement due to warranty. The delivery will take place at the educational institutions themselves, without the need for registration in a special registry.
In terms of other measures implemented by the city government in the educational sector, the remodeling and completion of 627 schools is highlighted, of which 300 are already in progress. The school day has also been extended in 14 primary schools and 9 kindergartens, as well as increasing transfers from the Unified Decentralized Education Fund (FUDE) for school cooperatives by 43%. Additionally, school kits with supplies and teaching materials have been distributed, teacher training has been offered, and the incorporation of educational technology has been promoted.
The 2025 school year in the City of Buenos Aires will consist of 189 school days, exceeding the minimum of 180 days set by National Law 25.864, as determined by the Ministry of Education. This measure aims to strengthen pedagogical continuity and provide more learning opportunities for students as part of efforts to improve educational quality in the region.
These initiatives are part of a comprehensive plan by the city government aimed at improving educational quality through the provision of better tools for both teachers and students, as gleaned from information collected by El Cronista.
