In March, beef prices in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) increased by 10.6%, accumulating a rise of 68.6% over the last year, according to a report from the Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA). The largest price increases during the month were for common ground beef (20.4%), common skirt steak (17.7%), and flank steak (13.4%). Consequently, most cuts are cheaper in supermarkets. For example, asado is 16.8% cheaper, and flank steak is 36.4% cheaper. However, some cuts, like tenderloin, are more expensive in supermarkets. The report noted that 'with one kilogram of average supermarket beef, one can buy 0.92 kilograms of average beef from butchers.' In March, beef prices in butcher shops rose 12.2% compared to February and 73.5% compared to the same month last year, while in supermarkets, the increase was smaller at 7.1% and 57.9%, respectively. The report also revealed a 10.9% increase in the price of fresh chicken and a 6.3% increase in the price of pork shoulder in March. This has increased the purchasing power, allowing one to buy more chicken and pork per kilogram of asado compared to last year.
