Decline in Purchasing Power in Argentina

Argentina's purchasing power has sharply declined due to rising fuel prices and stagnant real incomes. Despite nominal wage growth, inflation has erased all gains, and queues formed at gas stations ahead of new price hikes.

Decline in Purchasing Power in Argentina

In Argentina, there is a significant decline in purchasing power due to rising fuel prices and stagnant wages. Analysts note that in the last month, due to the war, purchasing power fell by 17%, and over the entire period, by 27%. Comparison with November 2023 shows a 48% drop. Despite a nominal wage growth of 7,500% in the private sector over 100 months, real household income fell by 11.38% due to a higher price increase of 8,509%. This directly impacts access to basic goods. Ahead of the fuel price hike at the beginning of April, queues formed at gas stations across the country as car owners rushed to fill their tanks. According to a union, sales volumes over the weekend increased by 25-30%, causing delays in restocking from distributors.
