Since President Javier Milei took office, two bonuses of $55,000 were granted in the first two months of 2024, and from that March onwards, it was updated to $70,000. In this regard, the Decree stated that “Law No. 27.609 implied harmful effects for all retirees and pensioners, but mainly for those with lower incomes, making it necessary to sustain them through the granting of pension financial aids and/or extraordinary monthly pension bonuses for different amounts, from January 2024 to March 2026, inclusive”. Continuing this line, it expressed that “as compensation for the adverse effects caused by the application of Law No. 27.609 on the pension benefits of low-income seniors, it is considered appropriate for April 2026 to grant an Extraordinary Pension Bonus”. The official document specified that “to receive this Extraordinary Pension Bonus, the benefits must be active in the same month in which it is liquidated and it will not be subject to any deduction or computable for any other concept”. Likewise, it provided that “in the case of pension benefits, regardless of the number of co-beneficiaries, they must be considered as a single holder for the purposes of the right to the perception of the Extraordinary Pension Bonus granted by this decree”. Buenos Aires, March 30 (NA) – The Government officially this Monday the granting of a $70,000 pension bonus for April for retirees who receive the minimum benefit, through Decree 213/2026, published in the Official Gazette. In this way, minimum pensions during April will be above $450,000, considering the update of the initial benefit, which must be in line with February's inflation, which was 2.9%. In the considerations of the regulation, analyzed by the Noticias Argentinas Agency, the Executive justified the measure by referring to the Mobility Index applied since March 2021 by Law No. 27.609, exposing the adverse effects of inflation on the pension benefits paid under the aforementioned formula. In this sense, the official text pointed out that “the formula established there presented serious and serious inconveniences, as it did not guard against the inflationary risk affecting the benefits of the elderly, since it did not contemplate the variation in prices and presented a great lag between the evolution of economic variables and their transfer to benefits, among other issues”.
