Economic Worries Overtake Inflation as Top Concern in Argentina

A survey in Argentina reveals that citizens are most concerned about falling real incomes and unemployment, which have even displaced inflation from the top spot on the list of worries. The government's approval rating has also declined.

Economic Worries Overtake Inflation as Top Concern in Argentina

In Argentina, economic issues such as the decline in wage purchasing power and the risk of job loss have become the primary concerns among citizens. This is confirmed by a "Political Satisfaction and Public Opinion" (ESPOP) survey conducted by the University of San Andrés. According to its results, 37% of respondents cited low wages and 36% cited unemployment as the main problems. These concerns, directly linked to income levels and job stability, have displaced other issues from the public agenda, even surpassing corruption, which was mentioned by 33%. Consequently, inflation (20%) has lost its relative centrality as a key concern. In this context, 46% of Argentines believe the country will worsen in the coming year, while only 30% expect an improvement. Meanwhile, there is a consensus on security matters, with 68% supporting the lowering of the age of criminal accountability. However, in the realm of labor market regulation, the response is the opposite: only 33% are satisfied with the general state of affairs, a 7 percentage point drop from November 2025. This socio-economic landscape has a direct impact on the assessment of the current government's performance. Measurements indicate that labor reform is the most controversial, with a 59% rejection rate. The government of Javier Milei shows 39% approval against 59% disapproval, highlighting a process of governmental wear and tear.
