Real cost of bus ticket in Buenos Aires exceeds 1,900 pesos

The Bondi Index for the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) for February 2026, prepared by the Argentine Association of Automotive Entrepreneurs (AAETA), reveals that the real cost of a bus ticket amounts to 1,922 pesos with VAT included, far above the current minimum price of 700 pesos. Even so, companies record a loss of 182.63 pesos for each trip, demonstrating the economic fragility of the system.

Regarding the distribution by jurisdiction, the real cost of the ticket shows differences: on national lines it reaches 2,215 pesos, in the City of Buenos Aires it is 1,912 pesos, in the Province of Buenos Aires it reaches 1,758, and in the Buenos Aires municipalities it drops to 1,586. This difference indicates that the fare should be almost three times more expensive if subsidies did not exist.

In terms of the system, the monthly maintenance cost reaches 387.270 million pesos, while the revenues recognized by the State are located at 298.433 million pesos, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. This generates a gap of 88.836 million pesos, which directly impacts, according to the report, the quality of the service, the frequency, safety, and the renewal of the units.

The study also details that the real cost of the ticket without VAT is 1,739.36 pesos, while the state compensation added to the tickets sold reaches 1,647.63 per passenger. These values configure the general average of the AMBA that gives rise to the Bondi Index.
