Milei Announces Decline in Argentina's Wholesale Inflation

President of the Nation, Javier Milei, stated that wholesale inflation shows a downward trend and maintained that this dynamic anticipates what will happen with consumer prices. According to what Argentine News Agency learned, he did so through a message on the digital platform X (formerly Twitter), where he presented a series of calculations to support his view on the evolution of prices. 'I will now present calculations that are not projections but serve to see how in dynamic terms inflation is falling,' expressed the head of state, who detailed that wholesale inflation over the last twelve months is around 26% annually, while the annualized measurement of the bimonthly period approaches 17% and that of February is 13%. Milei's proposal came after the wholesale price index registered a deceleration in February compared to the previous month, which, according to his interpretation, marks a trend that could be replicated in retail prices in the coming months. In this sense, Milei emphasized that wholesale prices usually anticipate the behavior of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), although he warned that the latter must still reflect the impact of pending adjustments, such as tariffs and monetary imbalances, which tend to be passed on with greater lag. The message is part of the government's strategy to show signs of inflationary deceleration, in the midst of an economic policy aimed at reducing emission and stabilizing prices, while the process of correcting macroeconomic variables continues.
