Buenos Aires, March 13 (NA) - The National Secretariat of Energy has instructed the National Regulatory Entity for Gas (ENARGAS) to carry out a comprehensive allocation of the capacities of the natural gas transportation system. The objective is to adapt the infrastructure to the country's new supply matrix.
The current system was designed when the Northern and Southern basins concentrated the gas supply, but the decline in these areas left contracts and routes associated with volumes that no longer exist.
Currently, gas production is concentrated in the Neuquén Basin, driven by the development of Vaca Muerta.
The measure was taken through Resolution 66/2026, published this Friday in the Official Gazette and reported by the Argentine News Agency.
This regulation seeks to correct distortions that were increasing the cost of supply and generating technically unviable routes. The reorganization means that each distributor will have routes associated with basins with actual gas, ensuring they cover their priority demand first.
Official sources indicated that “the organization adjusts the contracts so that they reflect the actual availability of gas by basin.”
As part of the plan, the companies ENARSA and CAMMESA will suspend firm transportation contracts linked to the previous scheme. This is done to optimize the use of existing capacity, especially in the Perito Moreno Gas Pipeline.
The government stated that the result will be a more efficient and transparent system, advancing towards a “structural and definitive solution to gas transportation in Argentina.”
Finally, ENARGAS will call for a public consultation. This step is necessary for regulatory adaptation and the approval of the new tariff frameworks that will arise from this reordering.
