Argentina's Economy Minister Explains Price Correction Process

Buenos Aires, March 12 (NA) – INDEC released the inflation figure for February, and almost in parallel, Minister of Economy Luis 'Toto' Caputo came out to explain why 'the Argentine economy is still in a process of price correction'. According to the Argentine News Agency, the government's economic official, President Javier Milei's aide, conducted an analysis of the situation on his official X social media account, where he stated: 'The Argentine economy is still in a process of relative price correction, after more than two decades of accumulating distortions that generated stagnation in the level of activity and employment and a growing inflationary trend'. February inflation was 2.9%, and it accumulated 5.9% in the first two months of the year. Caputo emphasized that this correction is fundamental to ensure macroeconomic order and the conditions for the economy to remain on a path of sustained growth, after registering a 10.3% increase in the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity between December 2023 and December 2025. Achieving a balanced budget, strict control of the money supply, with an evolution of monetary aggregates consistent with the disinflation process, and improvement in the BCRA's balance are priorities of the economic program that will allow inflation to converge for the first time in decades to international levels.
