Argentina's construction materials sales fall year-on-year but rise monthly

Buenos Aires, March 6 (NA) – Sales of construction materials fell 2.7% year-on-year in February, and as a result, the first two-month period of the year closed with a contraction of 1.9% compared to the same period in 2025. Despite the annual decline, the index showed a monthly increase of 15.91% seasonally adjusted compared to January. This monthly variation allowed for a recovery in the pace after the slowdown in activity recorded at the beginning of the year, although the sector remains below the levels reached a year ago. The information comes from the Construya Index (IC), developed by the Construya Group, which brings together leading companies in the sector. According to the association explained to Noticias Argentinas agency, "at the start of 2026, the scenario of sectoral stagnation that began a year ago was maintained." The technical report details that the monthly recovery was due to shipments for residential construction "resuming their previous pace after the stall they showed in the first month of the year, a period usually affected by plant shutdowns and staff vacations." However, the entity projects that the process of economic normalization "could have a positive impact on the demand for materials in the coming months".

The indicator measures the evolution of sales of basic inputs such as ceramic bricks, portland cement, lime, long steels, aluminum joinery, adhesives, paints, sanitary ware, heating systems, and plumbing fixtures.
