Buenos Aires, Feb 16 (NA) – Amid the debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the labor reform, Economy Minister Luis Caputo criticized the lack of discussion over the 85% reduction in contributions for new jobs.
“We lowered employer contributions by 85% for new jobs, and no one is talking about it. No chamber is celebrating, nothing,” he complained.
“I am simply amazed!” the minister expressed.
Luis Caputo is trying to regain ground after losing political influence within the government.
What surprised Caputo and prompted him to share his views on the labor reform?
Luis Caputo on the labor reform:
“We lowered employer contributions by 85% for new jobs, and no one is talking about it. I am simply amazed!”
The hot-button issue of the law is the reduction in salary for employees on sick leave, an article that the Government could modify in order to secure the law's passage during the extraordinary sessions period.
Employees who fall ill or suffer a work-related accident outside of their job will only receive 50% of their salary if that article of the labor reform, passed by the Senate via a complementary law or in the initiative's regulation as proposed by the ruling party, is not changed.
For this reason, the Government now seeks to pass a complementary law or apply the modification in the regulation to maintain paid sick leave, although for this case, there must be a “concrete and irrefutable confirmation,” as noted by ruling party Senator Patricia Bullrich.
