Buenos Aires, February 3 (NA) – The train machinists' union La Fraternidad, led by Omar Maturano, is meeting this noon with authorities from the Secretariat of Transport to avoid a possible strike that the general secretary announced for Thursday. According to the Argentine News Agency, the main axes of the meeting are, on the one hand, trying to unblock the salary conflict, as the union demands a readjustment that at least matches the inflation index, and on the other, preventing the 24-hour work stoppage confirmed by Maturano himself. Likewise, there is a possibility that the government will dictate mandatory conciliation during today and, in this way, suspend the strike action. Yesterday, the unionist advanced that when the mandatory conciliation period ends, “they will see what they do”. However, he assured that in March, “when people return to work and children to school”, they will carry out a new strike. “In a year we lost 50% of our salary, if not 60%,” he concluded.
